With sweeping views of the ocean and a cool breeze that sweeps over the plain, one would never guess that Makakilo is the home of over 13,000 Oahuans. Ranked as one of CNN Money’s Best Places to Live in 2007, Makakilo’s residents are drawn to the area’s relative quiet and scenic beaches that are saved from the trampling stampedes of tourists escaping from Waikiki. Residents of Makakilo real estate homes and condominiums for sale fall in love with the area’s remote charm, affordable housing, unfrequented attractions, and proximity to Kapolei Town that offers a variety of shopping, eating, and recreational opportunities. Because Kapolei has grown so much, most Makakilo residents find that commuting into Honolulu for work is obsolete.
The Barbers Point Lighthouse is Makakilo’s claim to fame with a fairly simple building but spectacular surrounding area. Found at Barbers Point Beach Park, a lovely beach in its own right, the lighthouse is also the focal point for the local Germaine’s Luau that caters to guests from the around the world nightly. The Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park is also located in Makakilo and offers the only water park in the state. Military housing and other similar housing developments are the cornerstones to Makakilo’s continued growth and expansion.
