Jim, who his friends call by the Hawaiian translation of his name, Kimo, is a Hawai‘i resident who has called the islands home for the past five years after decades of visiting multiple times per year. What started as a move across the Pacific has expanded his lasting love for Hawai‘i’s landscapes, communities, food, history, culture, and everyday island life. With the curiosity of a traveler and the appreciation of someone who now gets to call Hawai‘i home, Kimo spends much of his time exploring coastlines, small towns, scenic roads, local eateries, hiking trails, cultural sites, and the tucked-away places that make each island feel distinct.
Through his writing, Kimo shares Hawai‘i from the perspective of someone who is still learning, still exploring, and still grateful for the opportunity to experience the islands more deeply. His goal is to help readers discover Hawai‘i with more curiosity, respect, and awareness—whether they are planning their first visit, returning to a favorite island, or simply wanting to better understand the places, people, and stories that shape life here.
Kimo writes about travel, local experiences, outdoor adventures, food, culture, and the small moments that often become the most memorable parts of a trip. He is especially drawn to places that invite people to slow down: quiet beaches, winding backroads, farmers markets, local plate lunch spots, scenic overlooks, historic towns, and conversations with people who know the islands well.
When he is not writing, Kimo is usually out exploring with a camera, chasing a sunset, looking for a new swimming spot, trying a neighborhood restaurant, or planning his next interisland adventure. He believes the best way to experience Hawai‘i is to move slowly, stay curious, listen more than you talk, and approach every place with humility and respect.
